Warner Bros.' Joker: Folie a Deux opened even lower this weekend, at $37.8 million, down from the $40 million the studio reported yesterday morning. Sunday's box office came in at $6.2 million, down 45% from Saturday's $11.3 million. The film grossed $190 million+ pre-P&A.
Overseas fared better, as we reported yesterday, grossing $81.1 million, but like its home turf, the outlook isn’t rosy. More on what went wrong for this film under the David Zaslav-led Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate here. As we reported, the studio gave filmmaker Todd Phillips the chance to make the film he wanted, but at a much higher greenlight price of $190 million+, which is 171% above the $70 million gross of the original 2019 film, which had two co-financiers, Village Roadshow and then-Bron. Joker 2 had just one co-fi partner, Domain with 25%.
