Joni Mitchell – Blue 50 (Demos and Outtakes)

Joni Mitchell is getting an even deeper dig this fall with the release of a 6-CD box set. This box set contains about a hundred previously unreleased recordings from the fertile period of the late 1970s, when jazz had the greatest influence on her oeuvre.

The set, titled "Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 4: The Asylum Years (1976-1980)," is set for release on October 4 via Rhino. The collection of demos, studio outtakes and live tracks follows a June set that included all of the original studio albums from the same period. The albums released during that period were 1976's "Hejira," the 1977 double LP "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter," 1979's "Mingus" and the 1980 live album "Shadows and Light."

Vinyl lovers can purchase a condensed and distilled version of the collection as a four-LP set, featuring Mitchell's personal favorites from the larger digital package.
