A federal judge ruled that Google violated antitrust laws “by maintaining its monopoly” in two product markets, search advertising and general text advertising.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta came after a landmark trial last year in Washington, D.C.
“After careful consideration of the testimony and the evidence, the court reaches the following conclusion: Google is a monopolist and has conducted itself as such to maintain its monopoly,” Mehta wrote. “It has violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act.”
