Julie Bowen says it was 'really disappointing to be pitted 'against' Modern Family co-star Sofía Vergara by the press
Julie Bowen recently appeared on the podcast "90210MG" and criticized the press for pitting her and Sofía Vergara against each other during their time on "Modern Family." Both actors were regulars on the ABC sitcom for its entire 11-season run from 2009 to 2020. Bowen won two Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Claire Dunphy.
"I felt it with 'Modern Family.' The press kept trying to make Sofía and I into this Betty and Veronica thing," Bowen said of the manufactured rivalry the tabloids created between the 'Modern Family' co-stars, adding that the press "was determined to pit us against each other, like we hated each other."
"There's this scarcity mentality that only one woman can be happy at a time," Bowen added. "I thought, 'Oh no, I love Sofía. I love how different we are. She's funny and humble and mischievous, and she loves life, and she loves dancing and eating cake and all that stuff.'"
