Kamala Harris' presidential campaign raised $81 million in the past 24 hours, setting a record for the amount raised in a single day, much of it from small donors.
Harris campaign raises $81 million in first 24 hours
Shortly after Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race on Sunday and endorsed Harris, the vice president officially launched her campaign, rebranding the Biden-Harris operation as Harris for President.
According to the campaign, 888,000 backers contributed in the past 24 hours, and 60% of them made their first contribution of the 2024 cycle.
Harris said in a statement Sunday that "my intention is to earn and win this nomination." So far, however, there are no other major rivals, as a series of Democratic lawmakers and other elected officials have endorsed her candidacy. That includes a series of governors — including Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Gavin Newsom of California — who have been seen as potential rivals.
