UPDATE: Donald Trump's campaign has responded to Kamala Harris' claim Thursday that the former president is "backtracking" on previous commitments to debate.
Kamala Harris says Trump must attend September 10 debate before confirming others
After Harris said earlier today that she would participate in a debate hosted by ABC News on September 10, Trump's campaign declined to commit to that date.
“Given the ongoing political chaos surrounding Crooked Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, the details of the general election debate cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee,” Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, said in a statement. “There is a strong sense among many in the Democratic Party — particularly Barack Hussein Obama — that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still waiting for someone ‘better.’ Therefore, it would be inappropriate to schedule anything with Harris, as Democrats could still change their minds.”
Harris could soon be the official nominee, as the Democratic National Committee plans to hold a virtual ballot as early as August 1. There are also reports that Obama is preparing to endorse Harris soon.
