Kevin Costner spoke about the canceled theatrical release of his second Horizon film during a press conference at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday. He said it was "probably a reaction" to the first film's disappointing box office performance.

"It wasn't an overwhelming success," Costner said of the first film. "I've had a lot of films like that that have stood the test of time."
He added that it was a "studio decision" to release "Chapter Two" six weeks after "Chapter One," and "it became a studio decision not to." However, Costner claimed it all worked out well because he got to screen "Horizon 2" in Venice.
"For me, it went back to my plan, which was that I always wanted to release films five to six months apart. And that would allow me to come to Venice," he said. "I would never have come to Venice because they won't show the film here if it was already out."
