Costner's Horizon Chapter 2 loses release date after box office disaster
The Wild West will soon be available on your couch: Kevin Costner's "Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1" comes to Max on Friday, August 23.
The first installment of his Western series, which he starred in, co-directed, co-wrote, produced and co-financed, chronicles the lives of several characters in the American West during and after the Civil War. Costner planned the Horizon saga to span four films, with the first two filmed back-to-back, but after the box office disaster of the first film, it is unclear how the series will proceed.
The second film in the “Horizon” franchise was pulled from its Aug. 16 theatrical release date after the first film grossed just $11 million at the box office in its opening weekend, despite a budget of approximately $100 million. Costner stated that he spent $38 million of his own money to finance the film. “Horizon Chapter 2” will be presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 7.
