"I went through something," the actress' Instagram post begins. "Almost two years ago, I lost my voice on stage at my Alzheimer's event in Nashville. It was embarrassing and scary and I never fully got it back. It's been a challenging few years, but we finally figured it out."
Williams-Paisley shared a photo of herself post-surgery and wrote that experts diagnosed the problem as damage to her laryngeal nerve, which controls the voice box.
"I've tried everything to heal it (so thank you but please don't give me advice!) I was finally able to have surgery this week at @vanderbilthealth with expert surgeons and it sounds so much better!! I have a badass scar smiling at me on my neck," she wrote, before adding that the image of the scar is not for the faint of heart.
