Fresh off his first Emmy nomination for his work on the fifth season of FX’s crime series Fargo, Lamorne Morris got on the phone with Deadline to preview Sony’s SNL 1975 (working title) and Prime Video’s Spider-Noir , and discuss his hopes for the future of his career.
The Couple That Should Divorce: The Needlers Class Reunion – Saturday Night Live
Of SNL 1975, Morris said, "Jason Reitman directed this thing to perfection. It's a great look at day one of SNL, the ups and downs, how the show almost didn't happen, the characters. Lorne Michaels, played by Gabe LaBelle, trying to manage all these personalities while trying to get this show on the air. Obviously, 50 years later, we know what this show has become, but when you see the origins of it and the actors in this film, you're going to be amazed."
Part of the appeal of the project, for Morris, was the chance to play SNL</em>'s first black cast member, Garrett Morris, whom he met during production. "He's still, to this day, one of the funniest people on the planet. He's so good. Just talking to him, the guy was joking," the actor recalled. "He just called me up and said — because we have the same last name — he just called me up one day and said, 'Hey, man, I'm not entirely convinced that I'm not your dad. Tell your mom I owe her a phone call.'"
