Based on Christian Wallace's 2019 podcast "Boomtown," the show follows Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, aka "Landman," who serves as a peacekeeper and troubleshooter in the world of Texas oil rigs. Other cast members include Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Jacob Lofland and Paulina Chávez.
The trailer shows Thornton tearing through the barren Texas landscape in a dusty white pickup truck, hunting down anything or anyone who doesn't belong. "The oil and gas industry makes $3 billion a day in pure profit," Thornton says in a voiceover. "But before you make any of that money, you've got to secure the land and manage the people. That's my job. The first part's pretty easy. The second part can get you killed."
This will mark Thornton's first leading role in a television series since starring as Billy McBride in Amazon Prime's crime drama "Goliath," which concluded in 2021. "Mad Men" star Hamm comes to "Landman" fresh from his performance as antagonistic sheriff Roy Tillman in the fifth season of "Fargo."
