There’s just over two months until Law & Order: SVU returns to our screens for season 26. The show premieres on Thursday, October 3 at 9 p.m., following Law & Order and pre-Found (Organized Crime moves to Peacock). But we won’t have to wait until the fall to see Mariska Hargitay and the rest of the cast reprise their roles on set.

Photos from the July 19 filming in New York City have surfaced online, as seen below. They show Hargitay (Capt. Olivia Benson), Ice-T (Sgt. Odafin "Fin" Tutola), Kevin Kane (Detective Terry Bruno), and Aime Donna Kelly (Capt. Renee Curry) in what looks like a tragedy, if the distraught woman who leads Benson out of a building in one of the photos is any indication. Hargitay's son, August Hermann, is also on set. (Hargitay's husband, Peter Hermann, has been on SVU since season 3 and was last seen playing defense attorney Trevor Langan in season 23.)
SVU didn't end its 25th season on a cliffhanger, at least not on the case. Instead, at the end of the finale, Benson passed Detective Elliot Stabler's (Christopher Meloni) compass necklace to the mother of the kidnapped teenager she'd helped earlier in the season. She called Stabler to let him know, "I haven't taken it off since you gave it to me, and I wanted you to know that it's meant so much to me and that it's helped me heal," and he knew who she meant when she said she'd loaned it to someone who needed it. "I knew you'd understand," she said.
