The Makabayan bloc on Wednesday strongly condemned the approval of the “corrected” Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF) bill by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

In a statement, Makabayan said the bill “is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to force legislation through Viber groups, which is unconstitutional and a blatant disregard for the democratic process.”
Zubiri said in a message to reporters that the corrections and the corrections sent by Senator Mark Villar were thoroughly discussed by the majority bloc “in our Viber group.”
“How can this be? Last time we checked, the Constitution did not allow legislation by Viber,” the Makabayan bloc said.
