Luxury home entertainment tech company Kaleidescape, which develops and sells high-tech movie players and servers that deliver studio-approved, high-quality content to people's homes, announced this week that it is expanding into the movie theater sector.
The plan is to make library titles more accessible in theaters and create more revenue opportunities for both content owners and exhibitors. Under the plan, Kaleidescape would sell the hardware and deliver the pre-made content, while content owners and exhibitors would negotiate their deals directly.
Data suggests that re-releases of classic films could be a welcome additional revenue source for studios and theaters, which would offer these titles outside of peak hours.
