Filmmaker Rohit Shetty is known for the extraordinary cinematic action sequences that he adds to his directorial adventures. Apart from the action, comedy is another element that his films contain. After rising to fame with the Golmaal franchise, the director started a cop-based film franchise, also known as Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe. These films feature Bollywood’s biggest stars playing cops or the most feared villains. From Singham to Sooryavanshi, the Cop Universe has a number of films and one web series.

The 2011 action drama Singham marked the beginning of Rohit Shetty's Cop Universe. The filmmaker introduced viewers to honest police officer Bajirao Singham, played by Ajay Devgn. The plot of this film is based on Suriya's 2010 Tamil film Singam. It revolves around how a police officer teaches a corrupt politician a lesson. Apart from Devgn, the film also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Prakash Raj, Sonali Kulkarni, Sachin Khedekar, Anant Jog and others.

Ajay Devgn stepped into the shoes of Bajirao Singham once again in Singham Returns. The film saw him fight against a criminal who poses as a spiritual guru in the society. Led by Rohit Shetty, the film thoroughly entertained the audience. The film also had Kareena Kapoor Khan as Singham’s lover, while Amole Gupte, Anupam Kher, Zakir Hussain and others played supporting characters.

Ranveer Singh entered Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe with the 2018 film Simmba. It follows the title character, a corrupt police officer in Goa. However, when a woman is murdered by a drug cartel, he transforms to fight for the truth. It also stars Sara Ali Khan in the lead role and Ajay Devgn makes a cameo as Singham.
