The number of visitors to Locarno Pro, the industry branch of the festival, was over 1,743 on-site participants and 141 online accreditations. This is a historic record of 1,884 delegates, 23% more than the total of 1,530 last year.
The business world witnessed a mini-feeding frenzy of sales agents as 13 of the 28 titles without a sales agent listed when the Locarno lineup was announced on July 10 were snapped up for international sales at the festival’s launch. Variety alone revealed 16 sales deals, also a record.
As temperatures reached a very humid 36ºC, the big question for the industry at this year’s Locarno was why things – at least in terms of sales figures – seemed so optimistic.
