As the second season of “Loki” begins, the Temporal Loom becomes central to the Time Variance Alliance and the Sacred Timeline is threatened.
Loki costume designer Christine Wada on the inspiration behind the Season 2 looks
Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, the god of mischief, sets out to repair the damage. Helping him is Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan) — better known as OB. As they travel back and forth between different time periods, it was up to the show’s costume designer, Christine Wada, to build on the outfits she created for Season 1 and expand the Marvel costume universe.
A key costume was the temporal core suit. In the first episode, Mobius ventures into the broken Temporal Loom with a core suit. Wada knew the suit had to feel old-fashioned, like something from the 40s or 50s. The outfit also had to feel authentic and organic, like the TVA had built the suit to withstand the harsh environment. However, it couldn’t reference a diving suit, a bomb suit, or even a NASA spacesuit.
So she found a wetsuit from the middle of the last century and looked at the fabric: 'The ribbed groove in the suit comes from there.
