RINGS OF POWER Season 2 Ending Explained, Season 3 Theories and Unanswered Questions!
SPOILER ALERT: It's best to watch the final installment of Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power before reading this interview, in which showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne go into detail about the show's entire second season, which concludes with the season finale "Shadow and Flame."
Below, you’ll read about the deaths of several major characters as Sauron destroys Eregion and its Elven leader Celebrimbor in his quest to forge the rings of power that he believes will cement his rule over Middle-earth. Perhaps less surprising is the journey of The Stranger, which culminates in his realization that he is the Grand Elf – Gandalf for short – the iconic wizarding character from J. R. R. Tolkien’s works.
McKay & Payne have set the stage for Season 3 and are hard at work writing it, despite Amazon not yet giving the green light, which seems like an inevitable announcement coming soon. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, gave a Prime Video UK Upfront presentation this week and said that more than 150 million viewers watched the first season, with 55 million watching Season 2, a number that will likely grow as the season wraps up.
