Credible rumors point to a major redesign of the MacBook Pro in the third quarter of this year. The biggest news? That Apple is going to add back the ports it has been slowly removing over the years.
Apple MagSafe is back – what you need to know
The report comes from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo has a history of excellent sources within the Asian supply chain and almost always gets it right. The new Macs will have a square design like the latest iPads and iPhones, come in 14- and 16-inch sizes, have brighter displays and replace the Touch Bar with regular function keys.
Apple is also reportedly adding back the MagSafe charging port (and others). What others? Let's take a look.
Current Mac laptops only have USB-C/Thunderbolt ports. These are great because they’re small, don’t wobble, and can connect to just about any device with the right dongle. Even better, they’re symmetrical, so you can never accidentally plug in the cable the wrong way. The MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro only have two ports, and one of them must be occupied for charging.
