MLB Commissioner Under Fire Over Minor League Salary Comments
Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred claims his sport didn't want sports betting outside of Nevada.
In an interview with The Dallas Morning News ahead of the All-Star Game at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Manfred said the professional baseball team is opposing the overturning of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2018 ruling that limited legalized betting to Nevada.
Baseball has long been wary of gambling that undermines the integrity of the game. The sport has been plagued by gambling incidents since 1919, when Chicago White Sox players were accused of throwing away World Series games. More recently, gambling incidents have resulted in a lifetime ban for all-time hits leader Pete Rose and a murky scandal involving Los Angeles Dodgers forward Shohei Ohtani and his interpreter.
