MAKEMATE1 started with 34 male K-pop trainees of different nationalities. The KBS show aired in May and ended in July. After the finale, KBS revealed the name, meaning and release date of the new group.
According to the network, NouerA stands for a group without borders that can act boldly. "Nouer" means "to bind together" and "erA" stands for era. NouerA thus implies that the group connects eras with each other through their music.
