More than 20 years after taking on the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Mark Harmon is preparing to return to the world of NCIS in a different capacity.

After leaving the show after Season 19 in 2021, the Golden Globe nominee discussed his role as narrator and executive producer on the upcoming spinoff NCIS: Origins, premiering Oct. 14 on CBS. He appeared at the show's TCA panel on Saturday.
"I'm just happy to be a part of it," Harmon said. "And I'm actually kind of far involved in it, because I'm not there to make any big moves or anything. I'm just there to support. And how can I help? And if you need my help, that's fine. And if you don't, that's fine too. And so far, they've been doing great."
Mark EPs on the show alongside his son Sean Harmon, who previously recurred on the parent series as a younger version of his father's character and ultimately came up with the idea for the spinoff. Austin Stowell will play Gibbs in the new series.
