Timothée Chalamet (Dune franchise) is in final negotiations to produce and star in Josh Safdie's new film for A24, Deadline has confirmed.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film is reportedly loosely inspired by professional ping-pong player Marty Reisman. Ronald Bronstein and Safdie penned the script, with the duo producing alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, and A24. A24 previously saw him and brother Benny Safdie produce Uncut Gems and Good Time , but Josh's most recent solo directorial effort prior to Marty Supreme was 2008's The Pleasure of Being Robbed . He's coming into the project on his own after he and his brother recently revealed that they've parted ways to pursue solo directing careers, while continuing to produce together through their Elara Pictures.

Reisman, a legendary American table tennis player known for his flamboyant style and exceptional skills, began playing at a young age and quickly became one of the most iconic figures in the sport, winning multiple national and international titles. Known for his unique and unorthodox playing style, with a strong emphasis on spin and a distinctive forehand and backhand technique, he was a master of deception and could manipulate the ball in ways that confused his opponents.

In addition to his playing career, Reisman was also a promoter and ambassador for the sport. His contributions to table tennis extended beyond his competitive exploits, as he played a major role in popularizing table tennis in the United States.
