“Masterpiece Mommy,” the musical short film starring Chinese singer-songwriter Leah Dou, has been selected for the Short Cuts program of the 49th annual Toronto International Film Festival.

The film, which was shot over four days in London, marks Dou's international acting debut outside China.

Directed and written by Dorothy Sing Zhang, “Masterpiece Mommy” follows a girl named Justine (Dou) as she accompanies her mother to her mammogram appointment.

"As she sits in the waiting room, Justine's inner world begins to shift, causing her to question her deepest desires and the rough edges of her and her mother's strong bond. Ultimately, she discovers the true reason for their strained relationship," the synopsis reads.
