The Mexican government said Monday it has submitted a request to allow imprisoned former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas to travel to a third country.
Diplomatic tensions rise as Ecuador excludes ex-VP Glas
Mexico severed ties with Ecuador in April after Ecuadorian authorities forcibly raided the Mexican embassy in the country to arrest Glas, who had been granted asylum by Mexico.
Mexico's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that while the request was being processed, it had also asked Ecuador to release Glas from prison and transfer him to a "safe place" for his health.
Glass tried to commit suicide in April after his arrest, his lawyer said.
