How Michael Douglas Courted Catherine Zeta-Jones | The Jonathan Ross Show
Michael Douglas reminisced about meeting Catherine Zeta-Jones, his current wife, at France's Deauville American Film Festival in 1998. On Friday, on the opening night of the landmark 50th anniversary edition, he was given a career tribute.
Douglas, who was introduced onstage by his “Franklin” colleague Ludivine Sagnier (“Lupin”) and received a long standing ovation, went on to talk – partly in French – about his long history with the Deauville Film Festival and precisely the “little matter of Catherine.”
“I had just seen this film, ‘Zorro,’ ‘Mon Dieu!’ three weeks before I came to the festival,” Douglas joked. “When I arrived to promote our film, I think it was ‘Perfect Murder,’ I looked in the catalog and saw that ‘Zorro’ was coming the next night, so I asked my assistant, ‘Can you find out if Catherine Zeta-Jones is coming?’ And is she coming alone and can I have a drink with her?’ The rest is history.”
