The Death Story of Michael Jackson – How Did He Really Die?
On June 25, 2009, paramedics discovered the unresponsive body of music icon Michael Jackson in his Los Angeles home. Reports indicated that they rushed the singer-songwriter to the hospital and attempted to revive him. However, Jackson eventually succumbed to cardiac arrest and died at the age of 50. After police sent his body for an autopsy to determine Jackson's cause of death, it was discovered that he had the anesthetic propofol in his system. As a result, authorities ruled his death a homicide and arrested Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Munray, for the musician's death.
According to the autopsy, the coroner found two other sedatives in Michael Jackson's system in addition to the anesthetic propofol. According to The Associated Press (via CBS News ), the report also noted that Jackson was in "fine" health before he died. Additionally, his lungs were chronically inflamed and had reduced capacity. Following the report, authorities began investigating and arrested Conrad Murray eight months after Jackson's death. CBS News, citing court documents, noted that Murray had contacted Jackson multiple times in a 47-minute period when problems arose. Authorities subsequently filed involuntary manslaughter charges against Murray.
During preliminary hearings, the prosecution alleged that Dr. Conrad Murray decided to hide the drugs before calling 911. The BBC reported that Murray failed to perform CPR properly and failed to tell 911 that he had given Michael Jackson propofol. During the trial, prosecutors criticized Murray for "gross negligence" in administering the drug to the musician. Meanwhile, the defense argued that Jackson had administered a lethal dose of propofol to himself. After hearing testimony and arguments from witnesses, the jury deliberated for nine hours before returning a guilty verdict. According to the BBC, the court sentenced him to four years in prison.
