Michael Keaton real name is Michael Douglas
Michael Keaton is back on the big screen in Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," which is aiming to surpass $100 million in opening weekend at the domestic box office. The highly anticipated sequel may mark the last time the Oscar-nominated actor will be officially credited as Michael Keaton, which has been his stage name since he began his career in 1978.
Speaking to People magazine for a new cover story, Keaton said he plans to change his official acting credits to something closer to his birth name, Michael Douglas. Keaton couldn't use his real name when he got his Screen Actors Guild card in the late '70s because there was already a Michael Douglas in Hollywood (and a very famous one at that). And the name "Mike Douglas" was being used by a talk show host.
"I was flipping through — I can't remember if it was a phone book," Keaton said of coming up with his stage name. "I must have thought, 'I don't know, let me just think of something.' And I thought, 'Oh, that sounds OK.'"
