The TV series starring Angela Merkel as a small-town detective is now airing in the US.
Kino Lorber's MHz Choice streamer has picked up Miss Merkel from Fremantle. It's two 90-minute humorous mysteries. A third is planned.
Starring German actress Katharina Thalbach (The Tin Drum), the RTL series, which has been sold to a number of European networks, is based on the books by writer, comedian and actor David Safier (Berlin, Berlin). The story follows the former German chancellor who moves to a small town with her husband and pug Helmut, while discovering a new calling as an amateur detective. Safier is writing the film adaptations with Stefan Cantz (Tatort, Nord Nord Nord), with Christoph Schnee (Homicide Hills, Tatort) as director.
