Locarno Film Festival and Mubi create new award for promising debut films
The Locarno Film Festival has partnered with Mubi to create a new award for debuting filmmakers. The prize will be awarded at this year's edition of the Swiss festival, which runs from 7 to 17 August.
The MUBI Award – Debut Feature is presented to a director whose film is shown for the first time as a world or international premiere in the festival’s official selection.
The award will be presented by the Locarno Film Festival First Feature jury, consisting of Moroccan director-producer Khalil Benkirane (Doha Film Institute), Finnish actor Alma Pöysti (Fallen Leaves) and make-up designer Esmé Sciaroni (La Chimera). The Locarno awards ceremony will take place on 17 August and will be streamed live on the festival's website.
