Aug 4 (Reuters) – A political action committee backed by billionaire Elon Musk is being investigated in Michigan for possible violations of state law, a spokesman for the Michigan secretary of state's office said in a statement on Sunday.
Musk-Backed PAC Under Investigation for Possible Violations of Michigan Laws
Tesla TSLA.O CEO Musk has previously said he has launched a PAC focused on supporting candidates, but he hasn't committed to anything to anyone yet.
The Musk-backed America PAC has been collecting detailed voter information from people living in Michigan and other states after people submitted their personal information through a section on the PAC's website labeled "register to vote," CNBC previously reported.
"While America PAC is a federal political action committee, the Department is reviewing its activities to determine if there have been any violations of state law. We will refer potential violations to the Michigan Attorney General's Office as appropriate," a spokesperson for Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said in a statement to Reuters.
