MY OLD ASS Trailer (2024) Aubrey Plaza, Maisy Stella
What if you could talk to your older self—and ask it questions about your future life? What if you could talk to your younger self—and try not to make the same mistakes you did? That’s the premise of Amazon MGM Studios’ “My Old Ass,” which follows Elliott Labrant (Maisy Stella), who, the summer before she leaves home for her family’s cranberry farm, is visited by her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) on a mushroom trip.
In a conversation with Variety, Stella and writer-director Megan Park discuss their collaborations on and off the set, and their film about the rapid passage of time, adolescent desire, and self-questioning sexual identity.
“You are my manifestation,” Stella tells Park, who first met the actor while working on her directorial debut, “The Fallout,” released in 2021. “I fell in love with you. I knew I wanted to work with you so badly that I literally started manifesting in my journals, writing, ‘Megan Park, Megan Park. I’m in Megan Park’s next movie.’ And I was very consistent with that until my prayers were answered.”
