Something tells us NCIS is going to deliver one of the saddest, most heartbreaking, and most bittersweet hours in its history with its tribute to series regular David McCallum, who passed away in September 2023.

NCIS S21E2 | DiNozzo Returns for Ducky Tribute (David McCallum)

CBS has released photos from the February 19 episode, "The Stories We Leave Behind," written by star Brian Dietzen (fitting, since his Dr. Jimmy Palmer was introduced as Ducky's assistant) and Scott Williams, and it shows the team delving into one of the former coroner-turned-historian's cases.

In the episode, the logline teases: "As NCIS mourns the loss of Ducky, the agents find solace in working one of its unfinished cases involving a woman whose father was dishonorably discharged from the Marines."

This is a case no one knew he was working on. It was "important to Dr. Mallard. In [investigating] it's going to be reliving their memories of a colleague and a man who meant the world to them," co-showrunner David J. North told us. And they ask themselves, "What would Ducky do?" to get to the answer. "Brian cried writing it; the cast and crew cried filming it," North added. We have a feeling we'll be watching, too.
