Netflix is embroiled in a legal dispute with Asian News International (ANI) over the streaming giant's hit series “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.”
The drama, directed by Anubhav Sinha, is a fictionalized version of the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, which was en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi and was diverted to Kandahar, Afghanistan. The series is currently ranked #2 on Netflix's Global Top 10 Non-English Shows.
In a lawsuit filed in the Delhi High Court, the news agency alleges copyright infringement over ANI’s archive footage used in the series and seeks deletion of four episodes of the six-episode series. Netflix declined to comment when contacted by Variety, saying it is an ongoing legal matter. The court is scheduled to hear the case on Friday.
