Fans have been wondering what happens in the ending of Netflix's Lonely Planet , and whether Laura Dern's Katherine and Liam Hemsworth's Owen will ultimately end up together. Directed by Susannah Grant, whose screenplay includes 28 Days and The Soloist , the film follows the romance between Katherine, a highly successful fiction writer, and Owen, a man who works in private equity but is unsure about his career path. The romance begins after the two meet in Morocco.

Here's the ending explained by Lonely Planet, with spoilers.

Katherine and Owen spend time together by the ocean. Unfortunately, Katherine's bag is stolen. Inside was her laptop, with all of her writings. Devastated, Katherine breaks things off with Owen, despite his attempts to be supportive and understanding, and heads back to New York City alone.
