Netflix has decided to cancel That '90s Show after two seasons. The sequel to Fox's That '70s Show (1998-2006) was scheduled to premiere on the streaming giant on January 19, 2023. The first season will consist of 10 episodes. The second season will air in two equal eight-episode installments on June 27, 2024 and August 22, 2024. The cancellation comes after reports of a lukewarm audience response to the latest chapter in the teen sitcom.
That '90s Show Cancelled: A Heartfelt Farewell to Kurtwood Smith
Netflix has decided not to renew That '90s Show for a third season or part 4 (as the platform now lists all episodes of the series as parts 1, 2, and 3). Kurtwood Smith, who played Red Forman in both That '70s Show and its sequel, expressed his disappointment over the cancellation on Instagram.
"I know you've been asking me when season 3 is coming but I have some bad news… Netflix will not be renewing," Smith wrote. "I just want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all the fans around the world who have supported and watched the show. You've come up to me in random places around the world when I've been traveling and reached out to me on social media and just been so amazing," he added.
That '90s Show centers on Leia, a teenager living with her grandparents, Red and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp), in the mid-1990s.
