The camp of Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. on Thursday requested the Department of Justice (DOJ) to halt its preliminary investigation into the complaint filed against the lawmaker over his alleged involvement in the March 4 assassination of Gov. Roel Degamo and nine other persons.
Congressman Teves Asks DOJ to Block Investigation into Degamo Murder
Attorney Ferdinand Topacio, Teves' lead attorney, filed a motion with the Justice Department to suppress the case, alleging bias against his client.
“It may happen that DOJ can block the Cong’s coffers. This is a murder case that has been pronounced guilty of the murder case,” the lawyer explained to reporters.
Topacio therefore believes that it would be better if the case were handled by the Office of the Ombudsman.
