North Korea reported earlier this week that flooding in northern regions had caused unspecified casualties and damage to thousands of homes.
Seoul said on Thursday it was prepared to provide “urgent” humanitarian aid to “North Korean victims of the disaster,” after a South Korean news report suggested the death toll and number of missing people could reach 1,500.
The TV Chosun report, which was later picked up by other media, also reported on the possible deaths of rescue workers in helicopter crashes.
