UPDATE: The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an official investigation into Ticketmaster's compliance with consumer protection laws in relation to the sale of Oasis concert tickets.
Oasis is furious because the government is going to investigate Ticketmaster about the rising dynamic ticket prices
The CMA said on Thursday it is investigating whether "Ticketmaster engaged in unfair trading practices prohibited under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008"; "people were given clear and timely information to explain that the tickets could be subject to so-called 'dynamic pricing' where prices changed depending on demand, and how this would work, including the price they would pay for tickets purchased"; and whether "people were pressured into buying tickets within a short period of time – at a higher price than they thought they would have to pay, potentially affecting their purchasing decisions."
The CMA said it is now engaging with Ticketmaster and gathering evidence to consider whether the company breached consumer protection law. The CMA also added that its investigation is in its early stages and that "it cannot be assumed that Ticketmaster has breached consumer protection law."
The organisation has also asked for evidence from Oasis fans who experienced the ticket sales.
