How Amazon's Prime Video is Trying to Get You Watching | REUTERS
Streamer revenues rose again in the UK last year, according to Ofcom’s Media Nations Report, with Prime Video generating more than £1bn ($1.28bn) for the first time, but commercial networks’ revenues fell to their lowest level in four years.
Combined revenues at the deep-pocketed US giants soared 20%, similar to the previous year, to more than £4bn ($5.13bn), a figure that has now doubled since the start of the pandemic, the regulator’s annual report showed.
Prime Video – which produces Clarkson’s Farm and The Rig in the UK, where it is making The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – was the big winner, with revenue rising by almost a third to more than £1bn for the first time, almost tripling since records began in 2018. The news will be welcomed by an Amazon team fresh from the bombshell purchase of Lord of the Rings studio Bray, only the second UK studio to be owned by a major US player.
