Taiwan's Ministry of Culture (MOC) has selected Old Fox as its entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2025 Academy Awards.
Marlon Brando's unforgettable response to being called 'The greatest actor ever'!
Old Fox is directed by Hsiao Ya-chuan, who won the Golden Horse Film Awards for the film last year. Hsiao has directed works such as Taipei Exchanges (2010) and Father to Son (2018). Selected as Taiwan’s entry from a group of 14 films, Old Fox follows an 11-year-old boy living with his impoverished father and struggling with the conflict between worldliness and the kindness of humanity. The boy quickly befriends his landlord, nicknamed Old Fox.
Regarding the choice of the film, the MOC stated that Old Fox is a “fable of social classes amidst social changes and the drastic economic impact of Taiwan in the late 1980s” and “provides a profound analysis of humanity with its motif, narrative, setup and subtle descriptions of daily life.”
At the Golden Horse Film Awards, the film also won awards for Best Supporting Actor for Akio Chen, Best Makeup and Costume Design, and Best Original Score.
