Peacock attracted 33% more viewers in July than in June, according to Nielsen, thanks in large part to the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics and Season 6 of “Love Island USA.”

According to The Gauge, a monthly report from Nielsen, Peacock accounted for 1.5% of all TV viewers in July. That’s up sharply from the previous month, when the NBCUniversal-owned streamer came in with a 1.2% share and its second-best share ever after the 1.6% it achieved in January of this year. And on the broadcast side, NBC’s Olympics broadcast accounted for all five and seven of the month’s top 10 broadcasts, averaging 19 million viewers on July 28.
These bumps coincide with overall increases in streaming viewership, with July setting records for the four largest streaming weeks ever measured by Nielsen. Streaming accounted for 41.4% of all TV viewership compared to 40.3% the previous month, and TV usage, which rose 2.3%. Broadcasts’ share fell slightly to 20.3% from 20.5%, but was up 5% from July 2023, and in isolation week-over-week, the Olympics increased broadcast share to 22% of all TV usage during the last week of July.
The Gauge only covers three days of Olympic coverage, suggesting August is likely to continue these trends.
