France Castro, vice-chair of the House Minority Group and leader of the ACT Teachers' Party, vowed to scrutinize the budget for flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) following massive flooding in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other parts of Luzon.

“The Marcos Jr. government has allocated a drastically high budget for flood control in the 2024 budget of the DPWH, but thousands of people were forced to flee to their rooftops or evacuate due to massive flooding caused by Super Typhoon Carina,” Castro said.
Castro said the DPWH was allocated nearly P350 billion this year for flood control structures, drainage systems and the renovation of flood control facilities.
“This does not include the foreign-funded projects supposedly for flood control, but it already amounts to P349,332,963,000 or P957,076,610,9589 per day in flood control funds. That is almost P1 billion in funds per day, but they failed catastrophically in their job,” Castro stressed.
