A few weeks ago, some of the UK’s biggest disabled stars gathered at the ultra-hip Electric Light Station in Shoreditch to cover Channel 4’s coverage of the Paralympic Games. They felt the fire in their bellies.
The evening included talks and performances from the likes of wheelchair basketball star and presenter Ade Adepitan, Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis and The Last Leg presenter Adam Hills, all of whom will feature in Channel 4's coverage when the games begin next Wednesday. The network's Paralympics advert, entitled 'Considering What?', was also unveiled, challenging the notion that disabled athletes are often dismissed with slurs such as "she's good… for someone in a wheelchair", when in fact they are fighting the same battle against gravity, friction and time as able-bodied Olympians. Onlookers were inspired by the advert.
The atmosphere was, as the name suggests, electric and the cheering for the Paralympics had truly erupted, just weeks after NBC across the pond unveiled its most comprehensive coverage plans yet for linear and streamer Peacock.
