LIVE: Fans watch Olympic Games closing ceremony in Paris
The skies above rain-soaked Paris remained overcast during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games on Friday. The promised, very unique spectacle on the Seine remained motionless, despite a few superstars, a historic mixtape and a few grande balançoires.
Despite being staged on a grand scale, with landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame de Paris and the Louvre serving as backdrops, the opening ceremony simply wasn't great television.
Even with the rain pouring down, things certainly improved as darkness fell over the City of Lights, more than two hours after NBC’s live broadcast. The night revealed more of the drama of Paris itself, the river and the performers who came to life as the nation’s boat-propelled parade of 205 delegations came to a close.
