Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Viewing Figures Up 60% Over Tokyo
NBCUniversal's presentation of the Paris Olympics on Saturday, which premiered on NBC, Peacock and other major NBCU platforms, generated a total audience share (TAD) of 32.4 million viewers, according to rapid national data from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.
That's more than the opening Saturday of the Tokyo Olympics, which drew 17.7 million viewers across all platforms.
Highlights included Caeleb Dressel and Simone Manuel winning gold and silver medals respectively in the 4x100m freestyle relay, bronze for Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle, a victory for the U.S. men’s soccer team, beach volleyball, diving and the men’s gymnastics qualifying events. Live coverage in the afternoon (Paris Prime: 2-5 p.m. ET) was followed by a primetime presentation (8-11 p.m. ET/PT).
