The Pentagon has discovered another $2 billion in errors in the calculations for munitions, missiles and other equipment sent to Ukraine, bringing the total amount of misvalued material to $8.2 billion, a U.S. government report showed Thursday.
Pentagon Admits MASSIVE Accounting Error in Ukraine Aid
A new report from the Government Accountability Office finds that the U.S. Department of Defense is struggling to accurately determine the value of defense goods shipped to Ukraine due to unclear accounting definitions.
In 2023, the Pentagon said officials used “replacement value” instead of “depreciated value” to count billions of dollars’ worth of materials sent to Ukraine. The $6.2 billion error created a path for billions more to be sent to Kiev.
The Pentagon told the GAO that an additional $2 billion in exaggerations has since been found. As a result, an additional $2 billion in weapons could be sent to Ukraine to cover the amount of aid approved by the Biden administration.
