The Philippine Navy said on Tuesday that the actions of the Chinese air force over the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea were "coercive, aggressive and misleading".

The Philippines is furious over what it sees as a dangerous maneuver by two Chinese aircraft, which it says dropped flares in the direction of Chinese military aircraft while they were conducting a routine patrol over the disputed shoal on Thursday.
According to Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, these actions do not belong in the international arena, where international law applies. He added that China's behavior increases the risk of unwanted incidents.
China, which also claims sovereignty over the sandbank, disputes this and says it acted in a professional and legal manner.
