CNET, one of the first digital news sites, is expected to be sold to Ziff Davis for a price tag of more than $100 million, Deadline has confirmed. The deal is expected to close in the current quarter.

The technology-focused site is being spun off by Red Venture, which acquired it in 2020 from the company formerly known as ViacomCBS, the first in a series of asset sales since Paramount Global.
CBS paid $1.8 billion for the site in 2008. Digital media company Red Ventures put up about $500 million. There is some pain in digital publishing, as giant Meta and Google dominate online advertising.
CNET was founded in 1994. In 1996, it was one of the first Internet companies to go public, riding the wave of the dot-com boom.
