The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has already planted more than 12 million trees and mangrove forests as part of its commitment to environmental protection and climate change mitigation.
From 2020 to July 2024, PPA has planted a total of 12,259,894 trees, the port management offices reported based on certifications issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The tree planting initiative is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on the integration of reforestation with disaster management projects.
The PMO Surigao led the PMOs with the highest number of trees planted, a total of 4,888,277 trees. It was followed by PMO SOCSARGEN (1,385,369); PMO Agusan (1,182,289); PMO Zamboanga del Norte (1,034,019); and PMO Masbate (580,000).
